Cable warning signs
Cables give plenty of visual warning before they let go. A quick look at both bottom brackets a few times a year is worth the minute it takes.
- Visible fraying, broken strands, kinks or rust on the cable, particularly in the lower few feet.
- The door lifts crooked, with one bottom corner clearly higher than the other.
- Slack cable hanging loose, or cable that has jumped out of the groove and wound over itself on the drum.
- The door has come off the track on one side, or it grinds against the vertical track as it moves.
How cable repair is carried out
Cables sit under spring load, so the sequence matters as much as the parts.

- 02Both cables are removed and the drums, bearing plates, bottom brackets and shaft are inspected for wear and damage.
- 03New matched cables are fitted, seated correctly in the drum grooves and tensioned evenly on both sides.
- 04The door is cycled and balance-tested, track alignment is confirmed and the opener's force settings are re-checked.
